cloudburst

Dreamy eyes open slowly
to baritone grumbles,
long and lowly,
crawling across the sky.

Ashen light soaks through thin blinds
and perfectly triangular ears
listen -
regarding the morning rain.

He is brave,
but he settles more tightly into
the hollow of my belly
anyway.

---

Later,
it is pouring -
hard
at the end of a concrete hallway
as I stand before floor to ceiling glass
and
I wish the water would
swallow me whole.

  1. Beautiful. They remind me of childhood. So willing to prove they are grown up and tough, but still leaning on you for the little unknown scary things. It's endearing.

    1. Dude, me too. Only my dog is on the floor next the bed, and my ex is alseep down the hall, in the guest room. I have a metal roof, so when it rains, it's magic.

  5. Good imagery with the thunder. I experience the storms with my little dude, who is NOT brave, and screams like a little girl.

ps I'll throw you a life jacket if it swallows you.

  6. There are few things in life more beautiful than a thunderstorm...but the metaphorical thunderstorms are a different matter. As cliche as it sounds, storms always clear and allow the sun to shine through again.

  7. That feeling of wanting to be swallowed... so familiar... But I agree with Lauren, if you get swallowed I'll always be there with a life jacket x

  9. I've felt like that standing in front of water so many times. It still scares me.

  10. They listen to you and pretend to understand without passing judgement. Thats what we need, sometimes.

And my baby- the ferocious shepherd she normally is,when it thunders comes and buries herself into me like theres no tomorrow.

    Take care.
